About
F.A.T. Power Scale TM
:

Fat:
Feedback attenuation. Determines how much gain and body the power amp
produces.
Power Scale:
Each channel has its own Power Scale control. This is the London Power “Dual Power Scale”
feature, which allows each channel to have complete control over power
amp saturation. Set channel A “clean channel” for punchy clear
tone with maximum headroom, and channel B “distortion channel”
can be set for high power tube compression at a usable wattage. It’s
like having two completely different power amps built into a single amp!
Power Scaling TM
Power Scaling is proprietary technology developed by Kevin O'Connor at
London Power. I consider Power Scaling to be the ultimate tube amplifier
master volume, and that is why it is incorporated into every Stephenson
amplifier.
Many guitarists have difficulty
with the loud volumes involved in getting a great tone from a tube amp.
Tube amps generally sound best when the power section is pushed into clipping
or at least to its compression point. Both effects happen at high volumes.
Power Scaling allows the output of an amplifier to be infinitely variable
from full wattage down to a fraction of a watt, allowing for cranked amp
tone at any volume. Power Scaling maintains the amp's true sound at easy-to-manage
volumes. There is no coloration or loss of feel. A Power Scaled amp simply
sounds just as good at low-wattage settings as it does at high-wattage
settings.
Power Scaling also offers
these additional benefits:
- Longer
power tube life at any setting below maximum wattage
- Soft
start for tubes and filter caps in power amp section, by following these
steps:
- Turn
Power Scale to minimum
- Switch
on the power
- Wait one minute, then
slowly turn up the Power Scale control
- Over-current protection
in the event of component failure
- You can form new capacitors
using the procedure in (2) above, slowly turning the Power Scale control
up towards maximum over a period of one-half hour to an hour
- Extension
of speaker life
- Great
tone on stage despite how quiet the sound man wants you to be
- Protection of your hearing
so you can enjoy great guitar tone your entire life!
